A Smile Can Only Hide…©

A smile can only hide
The words I choose not to say
I dawn the mask of happiness
So you know not of what is amiss
I can’t bear the dread that looms over my head
But more so
I wish not to see the shame
That may take the place of the pride
That you’ve had for so long
My mistake may take me away
For a time
I worry upon my return that
Our love may be no more
So for now
I carry on dawning
A smile that can only hide
The words I choose not to say
